Ever find it super annoying to educate most kids these days? Even talking to them is a real pain in the ass. More and more people in Singapore are living in denial, drowned in their vivid imagination that they're living like Hollywood stars. Owning a car without a weekend car plate means they own the roads. Having a maid in the house means that they have all the right to treat her like a slave, not a proper human being. Paying for your child's education means that all teachers are your child's servants. As long as you give these people that little bit of "power", they start behaving like kings and queens of the world, assuming positions they're not supposed to, and that gives me the temptation to slap them back to reality.
But who am I to speak right? I'm just a little kid in my mid-twenties, having lived in the comfort of mummy and daddy's big house for many years. Having a car to drive whenever daddy does not need to use his car. I recall the days when I used to be that annoying kid who had nothing else to do but to say certain things on purpose just to piss people off. But as leopards never change their spots, I am still as annoying as hell when I feel the need to be. Well, in all fairness though, I'm only like that to people who annoy me first. Like I said, I believe in fairness, "tit-for-tat". That's why I'm doing research on that in school.
But hmm, wait. Earning my own income now entitles me to greater power to speak, doesn't it? Having to pay off your own insurances and own shopping for that matter. As opposed to annoying little kids leeching off thousands of dollars from mummy and daddy and buying their bling-blings in big brands? I don't blame these kids for adopting that kind of behaviour, even though I don't really condone it. The problem lies in parents these days. Whatever's wrong with their kids, blame everyone else, before their kids' attitude. Their kids end up in jail for doing drugs, blame his ex-girlfriend for making him depressed and driving him to do drugs! Kids fail in school, teachers to blame because they didn't do their jobs properly, especially the weekend tuition teachers! Kids having pre-marital sex and getting pregnant, blame it on the education system! Kids fall out of christianity, blame who? The pope? And wow, do you realise that parents' letters these days have a lot of power? One letter from mummy, "Please understand that my kid cannot take his exam because he is taking a family vacation" OR "My kid cannot attend school because he fell out of love and is currently too depressed to cope with life" can do lots of wonders, I tell you.
If my kid was like that, I'd whack the hell out of him; the exact same way I was brought up. I could've ended up like some useless bummish girl who only attends to her superficial needs, without the "corporate punishment". Funnily enough, the best of my friends were all brought up the same way. After all, birds of the same feather flock together, don't they? People have used a more crude term for me, but nahhh I'm too sweet to say it here. ;)
Okay enough of bitching. New year's resolution: bitch less. But as resolutions always end up... Well last year's resolution was to run a marathon by the end of 2008, so yeahhh..... we'll see about that. Happy 2009!
